Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a price estimate over the phone?

Because we strive to provide our customers with the most comprehensive and accurate quotes, virtually all estimates require having our experienced technician come out and survey the site for measurements, identify wood type and species, and assess any repair issues. Plus, most importantly, we need to find out from you, what your ultimate goals are for the renovation or installation.

How long does it take to refinish a floor?

For an average-sized room measuring about 12' x 15', it will take anywhere between 3 and 5 working days to complete the job. There are some factors such as humidity levels or room temperature that might prolong drying time; however, our technician will keep you informed as to the progress of the renovation.

How long does it take to install a floor?

Again, taking an average-sized room, it will take 1 to 2 days to remove the existing floor (if necessary) and install the new wood. Then account for another 3 to 5 days for sanding, staining, and coating.

How many coats of finish are applied?

We customarily apply 3 coats of finish to the floor. Some finish systems may require more or less coats.

When can I resume use of the refinished area?

Generally, you can walk on the floor (with SOCKS ONLY) 24 hours after the 3rd and final coat of finish is applied. But first, feel the surface with your hands. If it seems tacky, prolong walking on it for another day. 48 hours after that, you may bring back furniture. Be sure to prevent surface scratching by applying felt pads to all legs. Wait as long as possible (preferably a month) before returning area rugs.

When remodeling a kitchen, which should be installed first, the cabinets or wood floor?

We recommend installing the wood floor first for the following reasons:

  • It keeps the height of your base cabinets at the preferred level
  • It expidites the installation and refinishing process significantly
  • It allows for more fluid application of the stain and finish

Should I refinish the wood floor prior to painting the room?

We advise that all prep work, priming, and initial coat of paint to walls and trim be done prior to starting the floor renovation. Once that entire process is complete and the finish on the floor doesn't feel tacky to the touch (about 48 hours), then apply that final coat of paint. Following this procedure will avoid damage to your newly refinished floor and painted room.
